Yep, we video-ed you guys! Sorry about the horrible quality, we did it with a phone. And that weird lace-sheeny-like thingy, it's sunshine. The sun was shinning so brightly okay, I swear I got a tan by sitting there through like one of your songs.

SMSB BROUGHT BACK A GOLD!!

TRUMPET SECTION! WE DID IT!! ALL YOUR HARD WORK HAD OFF! I'm really glad to hear that we sounded GOOD TODAY! Even though there are quite a few of mispitched notes but we have improved tremendously and I’m really impressed by the tone! OMG! I’ve listened to many recordings from sound check, performance during assembly and for parents, we have really improved! You people seriously rock my socks!

Oh btw, Carissa commented about something on our section Guess what! She said that Trumpet Section looked the best amongst all because of the way we move and the way we put down our mutes! SUPER SYNCRONIZE! YES hm... I think is quite cool! She also said that NICHOLA IS VERY CUTE! AW... HAHAHA HAHAHA! ANYWAY ONCE AGAIN GOOD JOB!

OKAY so now that the 4e's have stepped down, I really want to say that you people have played a very important role in my band life! Please remember to study hard for your O level’s! I want to see everyone of u to be back for speech day next year!! HAHA eh don’t forget to come back to visit me and the section! I have seriously enjoyed my 4 years in band with you guys! We have seriously grown in our character and definitely in size(i mean side ways haha)! I really enjoyed all the laughing and giggling over minor events! W e are seriously RETARDED! Just want to say a big thank you to each and everyone of you for making my band life with you guys so memorable! <3

As for the sec2s and sec3s! Great job too but now we must not be complacent over the results yea? We must maintain this GOLD OR MAY BE EVEN GWH THE NEXT SYF! Continue to work hard and now that we know what our section is weak at which is tuning we must work on it and not continue to sound out of tune! CCA may have suspended but please go back and borrow your instrument (I’ll check when the band room is open) and I recommend Book to practice on things like slurring and high notes otherwise when band resumes you wont be able to play. Set aside some time for instrument and work! Good LUCK FOR MID YEAR!

To the sec2s in the NSYF BAND, please bring back your instrument and I Recommend. Practice hard because you all are getting into main band soon! Being in the main band is really different. The demands are really high so make use of this break to buck up yea? I’m sure all of you can do it!

OMG TRUMPET SECTION. WE DID IT.

WE GOT GOLD !

Its so exciting isn't it ! Our hard work paid off :] We got a Gold, we got a gold, WE GOT A GOLD! (I can keep chanting this all day long)
We really have to thank our wonderful teachers. Ms Chong, Ms Zee, Ms Wee, Mr Chew and all of them, I think they really put in a lot of hard work :}

You know actually I was seriously super nervous before SYF. Technically speaking, I didn't play my best. (I was the first to cry when we came out ._. ) But WE STILL GOT GOLD OMGOMGOMG.

Anyw, the dinner was good & quite a few seniors came along? :]

Now that we have officially graduated, the juniors must really practice practice practice and maintain the gold alright! Its definitely not easy but I know you people can do it ! TRUMPET SECTION ITS SYF TMR!
Remember not to play too loudly however you still need to project your sound and have more diaphragm support. Whenever you have a chord listen to the person next to you. Whenever you start a note, start it right and accurately and end your note together with a nice sound.
Do not get nervous, do not think of any other things and do not get distracted by the things around you. Keep yourself calm, stay focus and watch Ms Chong all the time! Most importantly, remember whatever Ms Chong had said! I mean it! We only have ONE CHANCE just ONE SO GIVE IT YOUR ALL Give your 100%! We have come a long way and I FAITH IN EACH AND EVERYONE OF YOU!

Above all, the thing about syf, what matters most is the process and the music.
Someone shared with me that silver is good, gold is fantastic but gold with honours is when you move the judges and make them feel the music.
Seriously, I know some maybe be scared of making mistakes, screwing up etc.
But when you feel the music, you understand the story that lies behind it, that will surely come out, and when you feel as you do, the judges will surely be able to see it.
CONCLUSION: YOU MUST LOVE&FEEL THE MUSIC. (If you are too lazy to read everything I said, you MUST read this!)

So my beloved section, let's conquer SYF & maximise our potential :D

hi everyone!
Im sure everyone of you are feeling a little relaxed now after mugging and rushing like mad for CT for the pass few weeks.

Anyway, I can hear that the section is improving after every practice which is a good thing. However we still need to work on things like intonation and articulation because now our section is 1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1= 9. It should not be like that yea it should be 1! haha yea math fail[= yes we are getting closer and closer each day but in order to go up to the next level , pls do remember things that ms chong say they are really important. There is no point if ms chong corrects us and we dont follow her instructions. So write down the things that she say and follow accordingly. Oh and some of you look exactly like WOOD BLOCK. haha so try and move to the music! shy shy for wat?! JUST MOVE LA OKAY!?

I realise that some of you are behaving strangely. What happen? Stress/ break up is it? tell us your problems la dont make yourself so miserble. You are suppose to enjoy when you are in band but the faces that i see during band makes me feel the other way round. So smile and have FUN or you'll regret it!

SYF is a month away. So be serious okay? bring back your instrument if possible. pls pls! Im sure all of you want to graduate from the band with something good right? So work hard

I just received a copy of the recording of our sound check. I dont think its a good idea to send a 1 hour recording becasue the file is too big and it would probably take hours so I will burn a copy for each of you and pass it to you on Tuesday.

Today we had section outing at SENTOSA.
& watched Pink panther 2 too!

It was quite fun Passing the ball toeach other in the sea and getting all wet
The "best" part is getting sand and sea water into our eyes!

haha While yf and i went to help the Sentosa person picked up the balls in the sea, there were like algae in the sea, so it like tangled arond our legs. YUCKS! we were like screaming on our way back to Shili and Christabel

Hey let's not care about the word trumpet and cornet okay? They are about the same just that we sound different!
Okay but pleases bare this in mind.I know that some of you can easily pitched the high notes using the trumpet but please do not get overly excited to the extend that you become so complacent over it. This long band break is not for you to relax or anything else! Think about it SYF is not very far from now and to those who have forgotten our rehearsal will be on 15th February09 6.30pm-7.30pm. So make use of this break to practice hard and get use to the trumpet! When band resumes i will randomly pick someone to play any part of the set piece or choice piece![= Whoever cant play it will have to face the music![= YEA so practise on parts that you cant play and not parts that you are already familiar with. On the other hand please dont forget about your hoilday homework and revision!

HEADLINE NEWS!
CORNET SECTION HAS OFFICIALLY BEEN TRUMPETISED!

So this is for all those who have graduated & still care about us (haha) or those who are not here (Yongwei/Ah Yong!)
I know that some of us are like really very sad, and some people (like me) are fine with it.
I mean it's true, I can't say I truly understand the way you all feel cos I don't feel as attached to being a cornetist as some others.
But I don't deny that I will miss playing the cornet cos it's been three years and well..

However, sometimes, as Alicia said, we will face obstacles.
And maybe there are changes that we don't like but you see the fact remains that everyone who is leaving/has left us has always had had an express wish that we don't fall apart at the slightest difficulty.
We are not tofus right?
And I guess maybe we haven't fallen apart but there's no denying that we're not doing the best we can, so let's do this together!
Let's pull ourselves together and move on!
Cos ultimately, it's not really what instrument we play but our attitude when it comes to SYF.
So if we can see the best of it all (& just think, since we'll sound louder and brighter, Ms Chong won't keep nagging us for "more"!) then it'll just make ourselves happier right?
I mean you all know that what with almost all our teachers leaving us, we just get very sad.
So we definitely don't need to get sad about something else.

I know you might think it's all very well and easy for me to say all this (like Suchin said haha) cos like I said, I actually don't really understand how you all feel.
Though I have some inkling.
But going through today, I just couldn't let you all be like that without doing anything.

Yesterday's section outing was FUN!:)

Ice-skating was AWESOME!

Then we had new found friends:) haha they are from Queensway Sec.

Okay.Cornet section!we must be motivated to play well and always trying to improve ourselves. We ant be complacent. reaching our goal is might easy but maintaining it is DIFFICULT. So everyone should Play HARD and SUDY HARD too.:)

Section compeitition is coming up! Oh and Try to be stricter with our juniors.!

We are a Section so everyone must work together to achieve the best!

Do it for the Band! It is our Band! We must work hard and strive for the best.

Anyway, I just wanna thank the juniors for all the little notes and stuff that you gave us first for SYF then for the investiture. Haha. Very nice of you girls.
Don't worry. We'll do well for O lvls. :)

Let me just nag for the last time.
-Listen to Lynn and Joanne and give them the respect due them ok? They ARE your seniors after all. If they tell you to do something, don't complain and just do it.
-*Make sure you BUZZ during all band breaks (ie exam breaks) unless you want to lose the progress you have made on your tone. Trust me. You WILL lose it if you don't. It's just a matter of time.

Actually I have a lot more to nag about your playing, but I shall leave it to Lynn :D

So, it seems like, jeanette has blogged almost all of what i wanted to say. Haha & i wont make a repetition of it cos you guys wont even read.

SYF was great, trust me. You guys did stmargs proud & no one should blame anyone for the silver award that you all achieved. In fact, everyone (except the 7 judges) thought you guys would have gotten a gold. & to me, SMSB will always be a gold & really strong band! Im proud to have been in SMSB! :D :D

Its not that results that matter, its the process. Think about it, if you didnt join band nor SYF, would you have gain all the priceless lessons that was taught during all the band practices? Would you have learnt to be more disciplined, more punctual & to be more united? Most importantly, would you have gotten to know that cornet section (esp me haha!)? Its pretty obvious (from this blog) that the cornet section is fairly united & there's peace & harmony within the section. Thats damn good k. Arent you happy that you joined band & youre in cornet section!! Hahahaha cos i am (:

Im seriously damn proud of the sec 3's & 4's!! You guys played so well that so many seniors were trying to hold back their tears. You guys performed way way waaaaay beyond my expectations & im really glad & thankful to God for that. Think positively, think about what you have learnt from this SYF & improve on your mistakes. Dont repeat them for the next SYF & im sure that Gold will not be impossible. Think too, that maybe you guys shouldnt have been complacent (i hope not), & realise that the Gold isnt easy. you cant wait for it to fall into your hands, its reality, its hard. But you definitely have to put in the effort & work hard for it. Im sure you guys are capable of doing that & bringing back that Gold (honours) award for SYF 2009!

Dont worry so much about letting the previous batch down. Looking at this year's results, it's evident that the judges are looking for something different this year & maybe they're more into technical stuff than musicality. So dont be demoralised, there were schools who did so much worse. Imagine those that dropped from Gold with Honours to Silver? Shouldnt they be feeling worse? Pick yourselves up!

Alrightaye! I shant say so much cos im in school (haha) & i've got class in less than 10 mins time.

But anyway, i would like to say that i love SMSB & esp cornet section very much & im so proud of all of you! (: (: (:

to my dearest cornet section (:

i just want you all to know that i'm truly indeed very proud of each and everyone of you all :) and i'm not saying this to comfort you all or anything but its really what i'm truly feeling in my heart (: when i sitting there with the rest of the alumni, EACH AND EVERY ALUMNI member was just so proud of the band when we saw you all entering the room and taking your seats. and you know the people who were sitting behind us, they were like 'uh, the band's so huge, so imtimidating' or 'look at all the their belongings' (in my head i was thinking its called instruments la) and i was so tempted to just turn around and tell them, of cos it's my band and wait till you hear them (x hahaha, that's really how proud we were of you :) when you all played finished the first piece, the people sitting behind us were like 'oh my goodness, they sound so good' and once again, yours truly here just wanted to turn around and say 'of cos my band' and when i heard you all play 'with heart and voice', i just so amazed at how much each and everyone of you have grown and improved so much from the last time that i've heard you all (: and ultimately, thats what's impt (: this silver branding thing is based on just 2 piece, are you going to let people judge you and bring you down with the results of just 2 songs? i hope not (: think about the process of it all, when you all just first got the piece, from sightreading, to the intense sectionals, full band, writing on scores etc, isn't that what matters the most (: and i really understand how each and everyone of you feel when you heard the 'silver'. its like 'silver' is the taboo word now yeah, i went thru what you all felt today 4 yrs back (with symphonic paraphrase) and trust me, i was brawling like a baby okays! but after i step down and everytime i look back on band times, i realise that attainting a silver or gold for syf is what i rmb most but its the process of it all (: like how mrtan will tell us a story just so that we can 'feel' the song, the crazy sectionals were by we would just practice a particular bar repeatedly, the long band hours, to even laughing over the fact (with other seniors in the band) about how sch ends so late, but we still have band then we'll like hide behind the files to sleep whenever mrtan is not working with our section during full band (yes, yours truly is guilty of that), to the section outings. and how when i take out my band file now and look at the scores of my SYF pieces, its like how colourful and filled with drawings (cos your seniors were falling asleep, so like we draw cartoons instead of the words! eg: mrtan say must look at him, we drew eyes and a stickman to represent mrtan!LOL!) really, its all these you'll remember rather then what you all attained for SYF (: and i know how you all feel, like how you all let mrtan down, how you let your seniors down and like it's so embarassing to tell people that you're a silver band now , but all these are just outside pressure and each and everyone of you shouldnt let all these get you all down from continuing to strive for the best and having expectations from yourself yeah? :) think about it in a more positive manner, like it could have been worst rights? (: imagine those band, like orchid park, who attained a gold with honours 2 yrs back and this yr, they got a silver, if you were in their position, you would have feel lousier rights? (:

the imporant thing is not to be bitter about life's disappointment (: learnt to let go and recognise that everyday isn't sunny :) and when you find yourself lost, it's only in the black of the night that you'll see the stars and these stars will lead you right back home (: don't let life bring you all down, cos cornets will always be cornets,SMSB will always be SMSB, yes, they can take away our gold from us but they can never take our friendships, our SMSB history etc away from us :) so be proud of who you are, no matter what you get in this SYF, or the next, or the next :) instead of broading over the 'what ifs' and 'buts' think about how you all can improve and better prepare yourself/the band for the next SYF (: step out of your comfort zones and rise up to the challenge (: life is about change, sometimes it can be beautiful, sometimes it can be painful ( like this) and sometimes, it can be both. sometimes you have to fail, to fall, just to make sure that you still can stand strong even though you've failed! you'll never realise how strong you are/the band is until you've been at the weakest point (: this lesson can be a make or break for both the band and the section (: are you all going to let it get you all demoralised and stop you all frm believing in yourself and in the band (and as a results, ppl will aso start to lose faith in the band) or are you all going to stand up, together as a band and say, let's work hard for the next SYF and better ourselves (: show the school what SMSB is really made of, that we aren't going to let this get the better of us :) remember, when you're at your lowest, you can only go up from there cause there's no where else you can go :) and everything's going to be alright at the end, if its not alright it's not the end :) things turn out for the best for people how make the best of how things turns out!

to the graduating senior, be proud of yourself and all that you've achieved during your stay in band ;) it's never too late to impart skills and lesson to your juniors (: so be proud of yourself ayee? (x

to the juniors: please listen to your seniors and learn with a open heart yeah? (: your seniors have gone before you and they wont do anything to harm you or the band :) just continue to grow and learn and make full use of the time you have left in band :) and trust me, you'll take away so much more than just memories when you do :) and noone's able to take it away from you cos it's priceless :D

i didnt mean for this to sound like a lecture so im sorry if it did but yeah, i still love each and everyone of you and i still love the band :) so does rachel too! so chins up my dear girls (: whatever you all got for SYF this yr, isnt going to change how your seniors/tchrs/mrtan think and feel about you and the band :) we have been and always will be proud of the band no matter what you do (ok, that doesnt including bad things la!) so with heart and voice, i want to say that i love you all and the band alrights? (: and i really still am proud of you all :D

I hope that you guys joined band because you love music and not for anything else.
Hey, it's a silver and we accept it.
Maybe we could have pratice harder, maybe we should have been less complacent.
In any case, we are not going to let this silver bring us down.
Come on, we are made of stronger stuff than that.

Lift your heads high.
If anyone mocks you, say "Yea, we got a silver. You've got a problem with that?"
Don't be ashamed of it.
Come on, band girls are M.A.D
We have music, ATTITUDE and discipline.
Little things like these won't get us down.

To the sec 2s, learn from our mistakes.
Never ever assume that it's easy to get that gold.
You are going to have to WORK EXTREMELY HARD for it if you want it.
You have to WANT IT so badly, you would keep practicing to get it right.
Band is all about team work.
You guys have to get others to WANT IT for you to do well.

UH ok.
The skin has been changed, but i think it has too much CLASS for our section. HAHA.
But classy is nice. hah.

One thing I noted while making the skin is that
WE HAVE VERY LITTLE SECTION PHOTOS!

Please go and organise Section outing so that we can take photos!!
I don't have a single picture with the sec 2 faces in it.

Oh, and the tagboard colors spoils the effect of the skin. HAHA.

CORNET SECTION: i'm so very very proud of you all. even though we may be second, you guys have indeed performed beyond my expectations. and more importantly, you guys played with enthusiasm and enjoyed yourself. and that's what's important.
even though there's no more band now till end of our exams, i hope you guys keep up the good work and dont slacken. cos if you do..everything would be lost. you dont have to bring home your instrument or anything but just take your mouthpiece home or study your score. (it's better than not doing anything)
i feel that this section competition had indeed really brought our section closer, and each and everyone of us have indeed put in alot of effort into this. and to me, cornet section would forever be the best ((:

all of you have a part in this section like a jigsaw puzzle (: without just one of you, we wont be complete. so we shall stick together like glue!! (okay i know that's rather random)

I just found out that not all the songs they uploaded are played by them.
You will realise that after you've listen to a couple of songs.
I think Noah's Ark wasn't played by them

I just found this website where Anderson Military band uploaded their songs to.
So they got a Silver for last year's SYF.
But the recordings are quite good.
And I'm listening to Merry Widow now!!!!!!
I MISS SYF!!!!!!!!!

Their ending High C is SO LOUD!!
I'm surprised they only got silver for SYF.
I wonder if they really played those recordings.
